Union membership brings many advantages to workers:

Higher Pay
Union workers earn 34 percent more than non-union workers, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Better Benefits
Union workers are more likely to receive health care benefits, retirement and short-term disability benefits, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. In fact, 85 percent of union workers had medical benefits in 1995, while only 74 percent of non-union workers had coverage.

Higher Productivity
The voice that union members have on the job increases productivity and improves management practices. Better training, lower turnover and longer tenure also increase productivity.

Greater Job Stability
Sixty percent of union workers have been with their current employers for at least 10 years; only 30 percent of non-union workers can make the same claim.
